Ways to Mitigate Climate Change by Implementing Zero Emission Hospitals – A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
If the global healthcare system would be a country, it fifth largest emitter. Hence various health care systems worldwide have committed themselves to become carbon neutral. In Europe, Germany as an economy and German produces by far most emissions. This has significant impact on of population in Germany, Europe worldwide. It leads Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) well premature deaths. To reduce climate change related damages, disasters negative outcomes, itself through treaties neutral transform towards net zero until 2030. The article highlights crucial steps for hospitals how this can achieved. Important management tools are SWOT analysis, PDCA cycle, DHOW model sustainable Balanced Score Card. Hospitals should establish Key Performance Indicators Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions monitor them monthly basis. action areas energy sources, insulation buildings, waste, water consumption, nutrition, transportation, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, education leadership. Leadership executed top-down bottom-up approach involve all relevant stakeholders including staff patients.

Sustainable biochar to mitigate global climate change
Production of biochar (the carbon (C)-rich solid formed by pyrolysis of biomass) and its storage in soils have been suggested as a means of abating climate change by sequestering carbon, while simultaneously providing energy and increasing crop yields. Substantial uncertainties exist, however, regarding the impact, capacity and sustainability of biochar at the global level. In this paper we est...

The increase in atmospheric concentration of CO2 by 31% since 1750 from fossil fuel combustion and land use change necessitates identification of strategies for mitigating the threat of the attendant global warming. Since the industrial revolution, global emissions of carbon (C) are estimated at 270F 30 Pg (Pg = petagram= 10 g = 1 billion ton) due to fossil fuel combustion and 136F 55 Pg due to...

Management decisions both at the field and off-site have the potential to contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Climate change threatens to increase the potential for soil erosion, reduce soil quality, lower agricultural productivity and negatively impact food security and global sustainability, making it one of the most severe challenges we will face in the 21st century. This...

Strong decreases in greenhouse gas emissions are required to meet the reduction trajectory resolved within the 2015 Paris Agreement. However, even these decreases will not avert serious stress and damage to life on Earth, and additional steps are needed to boost the resilience of ecosystems, safeguard their wildlife, and protect their capacity to supply vital goods and services. We discuss how ...
